Issue: A manufacturing company had an unusual corrosion problem in one of its plants.
Result: A literature search found obscure technical articles that pointed to a possible solution.
Issue: Engineering consultants
hired to perform a failure analysis on a product installed 20 years ago
needed to know the relevant regulations and industry standards from
that time in order to determine if substandard workmanship played a
role in an accident.
Result: The state-of-the-art
procedures for construction and installation of the product during the
relevant time were found via a broad search of the engineering
literature. Relevant regulations and standards from the time of the
initial construction were identified. Consultants now had the
background information allowing them to act as experts in the
litigation.
Issue: A biomedical R&D
department needed to know the background of a particular German
scientist.
Result: A summary of the scientist's
past and present affiliations, publications, and authored patents
provided insight into his credibility and competitiveness.
